How will emerging technology (ie: blogs, videos, e-readers,e-books) affect literacy?
Originally, everyone was opposed to technology when it came to topics relating to literacy. It comes to mind that technology often uses abbreviations and/or slang, this will affect literacy largely. People get used to abbreviations and slang and use it even in formal writing. This is very bad especially in such situations as the literacy test, if we do not pass this test, we cannot graduate from high school. If we use these abbreviations and slang that we are so prone to using in technology in the literacy test, we get huge points off -resulting in a lower mark and maybe even a fail. Technology also allows us to go on the internet where we can easily research things and ultimately, copy and paste information. This is such an easy thing to do and it takes up two seconds. However, this is a crime!
These were all negative points about emerging technology, but there are positive points too. Because of the many people who use abbreviations and slang continuously, there is a new dictionary coming out which includes the slang. Many people might think this is bad, but based on history... we'll get over it. Remember speaking old english? Probably not, but I bet you know that old english was bogus and super hard to understand. Shakespeare? Yes, you are very talented but you make my english units difficult to understand! My point, society used to speak old english and suddenly, we just adapted to the english we speak now. We are in a new era, the technological era, we humans have to adapt and stop dwelling in the past! Another point is, the genius e-books and e-readers make emerging technology positive. E-books and e-readers are regular books taking the form of technology. It is a simple device holding thousands of books. These books are normal books, they are books that have already been printed but another option is that they can be bought to be downloaded off the internet. This will not affect literacy, it is still proper grammar, spelling and all, plus it is environmentally friendly!

How is Web 2.0 challenging us to "rethink ourselves" (ie: friendships, work, education, community, family etc...)?
With technology constantly on the rise, we are often influenced to act in ways that are unusual compared to our ways of living from the past. Web 2.0 teaches us that through the web and technology, we are all being connected. Through technology, we are able to share things online world-wide, we are exposing ourselves. Web 2.0 is challenging us to rethink ourselves in a way that we must consider what we originally stood for. They are challenging us to rethink: copyright, authorship, identity, ethics, aesthetics, rhetorics, governance, privacy, commerce, love, family and ourselves. Technology has allowed us to be able to cyber-bully, expose information online that should not be exposed, be tricked by paying for things that we do not intend to buy, plagiarize, get too caught up with our technological devices and end up forgetting everything else and much, much more. Ultimately, Web 2.0 challenges us to rethink about all of the things we are doing online, they are teaching us how to be cautious when using technological devices.

I completely agree with all of your points especially your answer for the last question. It is true that technology has had a lot of effects on us, negative as well as positive, and Web 2.0 is helping us to become more careful with these these innovations.
